Short online tutorials on using ABS data

The Australian Bureau of Statistics now has a series of short online tutorials on using ABS data. These may be used for teaching or to help you to understand and make the best use of ABS information. The following tutorials are now available on the ABS home page:

Mobile WebCT?

Sounds futuristic? Read on..... Blackboard bought a student-run company that makes iPhone applications for colleges according to the Wired Campus Blog. Back in 2005 Blackboard also acquired WebCT, the platform we use for online teaching. Could Blackboard bring teaching and learning in the near future to where students are, which is on mobile devices?

New EBP clinical & educational resource

The Library has organized a trial of JAMAevidence, a learning tool which provides students, educators and clinicians with the tools required for understanding and applying evidence, and making clinical decisions based on evidence. To access this resource please go to Databases on trial and scroll down to JAMAevidence. Unikey required for off-campus login.

Please try it out and let us know what you think using the Database Evaluation Form. Your comments are vital to the overall evaluation process and will have an important influence on whether the Library will subscribe to this resource.

Directory of open access journals


The aim of the Directory of Open Access Journals is to increase the visibility and ease of use of open access scientific and scholarly journals thereby promoting their increased usage and impact. It is hosted, maintained and partly funded by Lund University Libraries Head Office (Sweden). The Directory aims to be comprehensive and cover all open access scientific and scholarly journals that use an appropriate quality control system, and it will not be limited to particular languages or subject areas. Currently it lists 43 dentistry, 311 medicine, and 126 public health open access journals.
